Sign inWe are seeking a proactive, self-sufficient, and adaptable in-home child caregiver to support our family in Kelowna, BC. The primary focus is the holistic development and daily care of our two young children.
Location: Private residence in Kelowna, BC
Temporary employment of 12 months starting in February 2027.
Compensation: $25.00 / hour
Benefits: 4% vacation pay
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM); Tuesday, Thursday (7:00 AM – 10:00 AM). Total: 30 hours/week.
Required Qualifications & Professional Standards
Experience: Minimum 2 years of verifiable, full-time professional experience in a private, in-home setting caring for toddlers and infants.
Household Management: Experience managing the care and routine needs of multi-child households.
Education: College or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year
in Early Childhood Education, teachingc/Caregiver certification.
Certifications: Valid First Aid and CPR Level C (Infant & Child) certification required.
Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
Linguistic Proficiency:
English: Fluency/Proficiency in English is required (spoken and written) for daily caregiving, safety communication, and emergencies.
Portuguese (Asset): Fluency in Brazilian Portuguese is considered a strong asset, as Portuguese is spoken in the home and language immersion is preferred.
Aquatic Safety: Proven swimming proficiency and commitment to active-supervision water safety protocols. Must be comfortable supervising children near/in a residential pool under strict “arms-reach” supervision policies.
Pedagogical Expertise (Asset): Experience or training in structured ECE methods (e.g., Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or Waldorf) is considered a strong asset.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Educational & Developmental Programming:
Developmental Activities: Plan and lead daily age-appropriate educational, creative, and physical activities (focusing on dexterity, numeracy, literacy, or arts) to support early childhood development.
Language Support: Support the family’s preferred home language environment (Portuguese) during daily interactions where applicable.
Developmental Monitoring: Maintain daily logs or progress reports regarding educational activities, dietary intake, and sleep schedules.
Structured & Outdoor Play: Direct daily outdoor play and structured activities. (Strict no-personal-phone/no-screen policy during active supervision hours).
Daily Care & Nutrition:
Routine Management: Execute morning routines, enforce regular nap schedules, and perform diapering and personal hygiene care.
Nutritional Planning: Plan and prepare age-appropriate, healthy meals and snacks for both toddlers, adhering to specific dietary requirements. Prepare lunch boxes for daycare days (Tuesdays/Thursdays).
Meal Prep: Execute full-week meal preparation for the children once weekly.
Water Safety Protocol: Maintain direct “touch-supervision” (within arm’s reach) at all times when children are near or in the pool area. Ensure all safety gates and barriers are secured immediately.
Household & Inventory Management:
Nursery & Play Area Care: Keep play spaces, children’s bedrooms, and care areas clean, organized, and sanitized.
Inventory Tracking: Monitor stock levels for child supplies (diapers, wipes, hygiene items) and provide a weekly shopping list to the parents.
Laundry: Manage children’s laundry and bathroom towel rotations.
Workplace Expectations & Flexibility
Professionalism: Screen-free environment during active caregiving hours. Personal phones must remain out of sight.
Break Policy: A 45-minute rest period is provided during afternoon nap time. Following the break, the caregiver resumes light household/inventory management tasks until the children wake.
Schedule Flexibility: Occasional schedule adjustments or overnight care may be requested with advance notice (compensated fully in accordance with BC Employment Standards).
Travel (Asset): Willingness to travel nationally and internationally with the family on occasional trips is preferred but not required.
